A standard table with a grill in the center

Gyu-Kaku is a Japanese Barbeque franchise with various locations in the Houston Area. The closest one to the University of Houston is in the downtown area at 510 Gray St, #A Houston, TX 77002

The food offered at Gyu-Kaku includes poultry, premium beef, pork, seafood, soups, salads, noodles, vegetables, rice, sushi, dumplings, and more! The link to the menus are located above.

The server will turn on the grill in the center of the table, then bring your dishes of choosing and hand you metal tongs to cook the food to your exact liking. There is a guide on the table for the recommended time to cook each type of meat.

Garlic Fried Rice and Miso soup, a personal favorite

Garlic Fried Rice and Miso soup, a personal favorite.

When I visit Gyu-Kaku, I enjoy eating my bistro hanger steak with garlic fried rice and the occasional miso soup. The meat is thinly sliced and cooks fast; I prefer mine a little undercooked, so I remove it from the grill rather quickly. The rice is served in a hot bowl and mixing the freshly cooked meat with crispy rice creates a tasty combination.

Gyu-Kaku offers a loyalty program, where you download their app and scan the barcode on your receipt to earn points. You can redeem the points to receive free dishes, such as S’mores for dessert, a free fountain drink, a plate of select meat, or even up to 25% off your check subtotal.

If you are planning on paying Gyu-Kaku a visit, be sure to enjoy your first experience!
